Advanced Placement

LPNs can earn their RN license faster with this bridge program.

Admission & Tuition

LPN-RN courses start each Spring (January), Summer (May), and Fall (September). You may apply during the open application period for consideration for the next upcoming start date.

Below we’ll cover the application process and the criteria we look for when reviewing applications. You’ll also be able to quickly reference the tuition and fees for this program, and find information about applying for financial aid.

Application

All applicants are responsible for submitting or completing the following

  • Completed application for admission, with non-refundable application fee
  • Documentation of high school graduation, GED completion, or other state approved equivalency credential
  • Official college transcript(s) from institutions attended (if applicable)
  • Official Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam scores
  • Official exam scores for HESI Fundamentals of Nursing, and HESI Maternity/Pediatrics

LPN-RN applicants must hold a current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing. The Department of Admissions will verify this through your state licensing agency.

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not graduated from an American high school or college may be asked to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Official transcripts must be either hard copy or electronic. 

  • Hard copy: transcripts must arrive in their originally sealed, never-before-opened envelopes
  • Electronic: transcripts must be delivered electronically directly to admissions@laboure.edu using a verified electronic transcript service

Application fees may be paid online at the time of application submission, or submitted as check, money order, or credit card payment (Visa, Mastercard, or Discover only).

  • Credit card payments can be made over the phone to (617) 322-3517. Please specify "application fee" as your reason for payment.

Admission Criteria

The Admissions team evaluates all applicants on the following minimum general admissions criteria outlined below, as well as the program-specific criteria outlined below. 

General Admissions Criteria

  • Evidence of graduation from an accredited high school, completion of a GED with a minimum standard score of 150 for each test, or completion of the HiSET with a minimum standard score of 45

  • Evidence of a strong foundation in reading, writing, mathematics, and science

Program-Specific Admissions Criteria

Cumulative GPA

A 2.7 minimum cumulative GPA is required for all applicants who are: 

  • High School/GED/HiSET completers with no college coursework

  • Transfer students and associate degree holders

  • Bachelor's degree holders

  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)

A 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA is required for all applicants who hold a master's degree or doctorate. 

Prerequisites

Prerequisites can vary based upon your level of education. Please review the chart below.

*Applicants who earned high school equivalency more than 5 years prior to acceptance term must follow transfer student requirements below.


Math: Two (2) years of math - one year must be algebra. Final grade must be C+ or higher.

Science: One (1) year of laboratory sciences (ie Life Science with lab). Final grade must be C+ or higher.
Transfer Students and Associate Degree Holders  

Math: One (1) 3-credit college-level algebra course with a final grade of C+ or higher

Science^: One (1) 4-credit college-level life science course with accompanying laboratory with a final grade of C+ or higher
Students with a Prior Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree


Math: One (1) 3-credit college-level algebra course with a final grade of C+ or higher

Science^: One (1) 4-credit college-level life science course with accompanying laboratory with a final grade of C+ or higher
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)

LPNs must meet the prerequisites outlined in their level of education (above) and hold a current, valid LPN license in good standing.

LPNs must also receive a minimum score of 850 on each of the following HESI exams after acceptance to determine advanced placement status: 

  • Fundamentals of Nursing HESI (one attempt allowed)
  • Maternity/Pediatrics HESI (two attempts allowed)


^Science courses taken more than 5 years prior to desired entry into the program must be repeated if the applicant does not have an LPN license. Applicants with an active LPN license applying to the LPN-RN track are exempt from the five-year requirement. 

ATI TEAS Exam

All applicants must submit ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) scores. The ATI TEAS scores must be from an official testing center and submitted as part of the application.

A minimum score in each section of the TEAS is as follows

Students may take the ATI TEAS three (3) times within a calendar year (i.e., repeat the ATI TEAS a total of 2 times within 12 months (365 days) of taking the exam). Results are valid for 3 years from the acceptance term.

Summer is a non-traditional semester; some students may not take professional clinical courses during summer term due to scheduling.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition is based on the number of credits you take each semester. 

For 2023-2024, the cost is $1,025 per credit for professional courses in the nursing program and $675 per credit for arts and sciences courses, plus the cost of books and supplies.

For 2024-2025, the cost is $1,025 per credit for professional courses in the nursing program and $475 per credit for arts and sciences courses, plus the cost of books and supplies.

Additional fees* for 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 include

  • Admissions Application Fee: $25
  • Matriculation Fee: $250 (paid by the Admission Deposit)
  • Registration fee: $100 per semester
  • HESI fee: $89 per test 
  • Course Fee for each Nursing professional course: $1000 
  • Technology fee for Nursing professional courses: $300 per course
  • Technology Fee for all other courses: $40 per credit
  • Graduation Fee: $250
    This fee will be charged in the last semester at the college to cover the cost of graduation processing.

* All fees are non-refundable
